Hi,

I'm trying to do a quick convert of an Access 2000 database with FileMaker 5.5 on Windows XP. I've setup the data sources in the control panel and tried the import via ODBC. However, when it arrives at the OLE Object field, it thinks it's a String and creates a field as such in FileMaker and generates tons of data truncation errors even if I manually change the field to a container field. There does not seem to be much information on this on the Internet and I was wondering if you guys could help get this done.

Regards,
Hound

Hi,

I believe that the images are embedded, but I did not create the database. The database does not seem to have any attached files and it's pretty large, like around 70 Mb (vs. the 2 Mb after is converted to FileMaker without the images).
Sorry, I'm not an Access expert by any stretch, but I'm pretty familiar with FileMaker.

P.S. Seeing that the images are so large, would there be a way to script some sort of resize or conversion (maybe using QuickTime?) - wishful thinking?

Regards,
Hound.

no problem:
1. Go to Start „³ Settings „³ Control Panel „³ Administrative Tools and double-click on Data Sources (ODBC) „³ ODBC Data Source Administrator window appears
2. Click on System DSN tab „³ click Add.. „³ Create New Data Source window appears
3. Select Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb) and click Finish „³ ODBC Microsoft Access Setup window appears
4. Name you Data Source as ¡§ something¡¨ „³ click Select¡K and browse to our database located in ¡§C:\folder\folder\ ¡¨ folder

In FM:
File--> Import Records--->ODBC Source... (called "something")
..u woould have to match the fileds in both DBs (email-->email, name-->name, image-->image)

for storing images in DB take a look at:
thread295-613559

Hope this helps your plan to further your DB performace...
All the best!
