I need to know how to import a full web site in Front page, when doing it through Frontpage it only imports the index.

Is this a site on the web that you are trying to copy? If so then the easiest way is probably to open it in IE and then save it for off-line viewing. Then open it in FP.

When importing a web site in FP you can select how many levels down you want to go and the max page size, ensure that these are set correctly when trying to import from the site.

Also ensure that you are imprting from the actual site and not just an indexc page that re-directs you somewhere else.

Thank you for your reply. Just to add a point when importing the site I did not limit the pages or levels, yet only the index came up. this is my website that I made and placed on the we then had a "crash" so I lost all info in Frontpage. I can not copy and paste from the site because I used"no right click" java script.I did burn it on to a disc one at one time but when importing from the disc it does not allow for changes because it is read only- after checking properties and turning off read only it still does not allow for changes. What I would like to do is import the full site to one file and then put it in Frontpage as it was when I made it. Can this be done?

This is what I did to get my website back. I took the copy I made on a disc, placed it on my desktop. Change the properites from read only then imported that into Frontpage. At this point I could still not save any changes so I deleted the Fontpage extensions from my file and made a new web with the same extension name and that worked. I don't know if that was the way you were suppose to do it but it got the job done!

When you have the whole thing saved on your hard drive,
you can do the "open web" feature, and then go to where the web is, and press open.. it'll probably tell you that frontpage has to do some things so that it'll work right, adn that's fine.
It'll turn the folder into a virtual web and then after that you can just open that virtual web through the "open web"

Have you tried opening the remote site (on the ISP) and then PUBLISHING it to your computer? Ive done this several times, because I maintain a site from two locations. It works fine for me.

If your site is on a host with Frontpage extensions you can open your site live.

This is how to Open the site live.

If you want to get your site from the is best to publish it back to your hard drive
rather than importing it, as importing can leave files out and if you publish your navigation
will come intact.. with import it will not.

Make sure you have FrontPage extenstions enabled at on your host.
Open up frontpage close down any webs you have open

Open the site live

File | Open | on the pop up box click 'Web Folders' on the left hand menu
Insert the url of the site you wish to open
eg:
NOTE: You must manually insert the url as you cannot copy and paste into this box.

(Include the slash at the end)
Click ok

A box will appear asking for your username and password insert these press ok

In frontpage, click on the navigation view so you know when the site will come in.

This is how to Publish the live site back to your hd.

The site will load once it is fully loaded you may publish to your hard drive.

File | Publish | insert the location on your harddrive you wish to publish to or make an empty web beforehand in preparation.

When the site has finished publishing close the live site and open the one on your hard drive for editing.

The no right click script has no meaning. It is useless and only serves to annoy and deny other right choices to visitors and is against useability for disabled users.

If you wish to obtain your site through obtaining the source code. Simply go to View and source in the menu bar in your browser. Or turn off Javascript and you will be able to do right click.

IF your host does not have fp ext simply get a third party ftp program like ws FTP lite and obtain the site that way.

I'm not sure about discs that can only be written to once but with one's that you can open again and again to write to.. with frontpage.. you simply publish the site to the disc and to open it you simply publish the site back from the disc to your hd. You will have no problems with that method.
