Importing from the GAL

If you just want to have the GAL entries available on your BlackBerry handhelds, use the Intellisync icon in the BDM to access the PIM configuration.

Once there, making sure that Address Book is highlighted, click the "Choose" button.

You will see a "Folder Name" section at the bottom of this window. Click on the "Add" button next to it to access the Address Book Chooser.

Drill down to the location of the GAL, highlight it, click "Add" and you're done.

The GAL will remain on the network, not really imported, but your users will have access to the info it contains. The displayed entries will be displayed in the same window as the personal address list.

Make sure that if anyone has read rights on the GAL that they be careful when editing entries from their handheld. ;)

I dont see it. I get to the part where it says Folder name selection: However it shows my mailbox. I have outlook at the translater. We are currectly importing a company directory but would like to import the GAL, so that we can get rid of this directory. What do you mean Address book chooser? What about Translators?

And I can't drill down to the GAL location because I am not sure where it is.

Thanks for the help. Take care.

From what you describe, the Choose Translator window (where Outlook is our corporate selection here), has a Browse button in the lower right-hand corner.

It is in the following window where the user mailboxes appear, and also any other publicly available folders recognized in Outlook.

Unless the GAL has been made available (possibly as read-only), then the option would be to use a public contacts folder instead (what we do here). Our HR dept. is the only authorized source of modifications to this folder and it is maintained daily as it also supplies our Intranet Directory.

Perhaps if the GAL cannot be made available, then a "copy" of it into a public contacts folder would do the trick.

We currently use the method that you describe. However have the GAL would be so much easier.

How do you make the GAL read only or make a "Copy available into public folders" ??

That is why my best buddy here at the office is the Exchange admin.

He knows all that and does it for me. :p

Perhaps the Exchange forum would be best for that question.
