Can anyone tell me how to import an Excel page into a pre-formated table in InDesign, or even just to flow in a row or column?

Many thanks.

Richard

To be honest, I don’t know any way to do that.

One thing to do with excel stuff that is going to be updated/changed in Excel is to go to ID Preferences/Text and check the “create links when placing text and spreadsheet” Then, if you have to update the excel thing you can ‘Update Link” from the links palette.

When placing an excel doc you can choose show Iport options on the first place window. When you pick the excel thing, you can pcik “unformatted” and format in ID. When you update a linked excel doc, my experience is that you lose the formatting you made in ID.

If you format as much as possible in Excel and place “Formatted” you don’t lose the formatting when you update the linked excel doc.

Other than that, I can only think of copy/paste individual items. Hopefully someone will come along who knows something more about this.

What you really need is a look at:

Here you can download THE tool you need to "populate" a table with data from excel etc; it's called "PopTab"

You only have design a table once (size of cells, lines, font, fontsize, color whatever) and these will stay the same whenever you import data with the script Poptab.
Of course you can make adjustments later, like making cells bigger when data doesnt fit (when you'll see the red dot in the righthand corner)

Good Luck
