Hi, I'm trying to set up a monthly import process from an excel file into a temporary table, then update another table from there. I'm having trouble on the import (Transferspreadsheet) because I can't figure out whether or not I need an autonumber, and whether the import will try and collect this from the excel spreadsheet.
I don't really want to have key (autonumber) values on the spreadsheet because it'll confuse the users.
Thanks in advance.

What are you goung to use to update the 'another table'? Have you some field on which to join the temporary table to the 'another table'?

Table 2 is the final destination.
The data starts in spreadsheets; each spreadsheet contains the same type of data but for different regions.
I load the spreadsheets one at a time - first into table 1 which I completely clear down each time, and then from table 1 into table 2 which contains data for all regions. Before I update table 2 I delete all the data for that region. I have been using
DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO [Table2] SELECT * FROM [Table1]" for the final "copy".
Cheers

Well, if you are happy that you can identify records, you are not obliged to have an Autonumber, or any unique identifier. Is this what you mean?
