Importing Digital maps into Delphi applications

I am interestested in creating a customized version of GPS-mapping SW in Delphi 7. I've not a clue, at the moment, as to whether or not any mapping software companies supply such a capability via an SDK, or whether there might be some freeware out there that uses USGS maps, or other free resources.

Has anybody been this route yet, and if so, any advice to share?

I think your are interested in making a mapping application using an existing library.

Google, the Delphi Super Page, and Torry's will give you good lists, but I know MapInfo has a good reputation. Microsoft also has a "solution", but I am not familiar with it.
