Importing Data from Excel to Access 2000 DB to Update Existing Data

Can someone please help me in detail the process to import data automatically from a text file to an MS Access 2000 database. The import not only has to import data, but update the fields that are needed to be modified and leave other data unchanged. I was looking at doing it with VBA with SQL and macros but if someone has another alternative that would be helpfully that would be great!
