I'm trying to import a list of tasks from an Excel 2000 file into Project 2000. I mapped out and imported a start, finish, actual start, and actual finish date. I would like the start and finish dates to dictate the duration of the task but each task that is imported with only a start and finish date (i.e. not yet started) ends up with a duration of 1 day.

I just tried switching my default task type from Fixed Duration to Fixed Units / Effort-Driven. Now the start, finish, and actual start dates are importing correctly but the actual finish date is not importing...

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks,

Dave.

As a quick possible solution:

1. Open a project file
2. Export and create a map for the fields you want to import later on.
3. Save the map
4. Open a new project
5. Use the map you just created
6. Use the file that has your data

I don't often use maps for importing and, when I do, I've found that creating an export map that matches what I really want to import is a good first step.
