Importing data (and security?) from corrupt database 1

Hi all,

I have a database that uses an mdw file. The database has become corrupted so I want to import all the data into a new mdb. The users and passwords work ok when i use the original shortcut pointing to the mdw, but I noticed that I can just open the mdb directly.
Is there a way to tell the new database to use the old mdw file, as I don't want to set up all the usernames and passwords again manually in the new mdb.

Hi Nick,
Sounds like you need to join to the workgroup file for your secured database before you create the new blank database. There are different ways to join to the mdw, e.g. in A2K you need to run workgroup administrator - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\1033\WRKGADM.EXE - check help to find the method for your version.
Once you have joined to the mdw, open Access (you will have to enter userid and password) and create a new blank database - you should be able to import into there from your original database.
Finally, once you have your new database populated, you'll have to sort out the group permissions etc - but you won't have to create the groups, users, etc as they are held in the mdw.
Finally finally run workgroup administrator again to join to the default system mdw, and set up shortcuts to open the new database using your old mdw.
