Importing Act Files into Goldmine

I am switching from Act 2000 to a copy of GM 5. I have tried to export from Act to a text file, then to an excel file, then to a dbf. GM opens the file but I can't get past the label screen. It says "label already exists with that name" even though I don't touch anything.
Also that label screen seems to shorten all of my fields and field names although I don't know if that's the way it will come out in the end. I appreciate any help ASAP.
