Hi to all!

I'm relatively new to Quarkxpress. Using PC version 8. Problem is: I need to create a book. It's already typed in Word. I want to import that into Quark so I can set it to its appropriate page layout.

I've tried to do that. For one thing I can't get Quark to set up a page layout with 2 pages side by side. Second, when I try to import the Word doc it imports just 1 page. Why is that?

Last I'd be grateful for any links to tutorials that would allow me to learn the basics of Quark fast enough. My primary tasks with Quark will be books and business cards.

Thanks in advance.

...if you really have no knowledge of professional layout packages, your best bet is to download this set of files from quark for quark 8:

...plenty there for you to get your teeth into...

...from word, you best to save as raw text file or RTF format, then import to quark...

...for autoflowing text into quark, you need to set up master pages, with text boxes linked together, the first box needs to be linked to that link icon top left of the master pages...

...in fact, when you create a new document (facing pages or single pages) with automatic text box enable, the first page will have a text box already created which relates to "Master A"...

...when you create a new document, you then have to assign more pages to the page layout palette manually, or via page > insert menu...

...a book always starts on a right hand page, unless your from another part of the world, which is why quark always starts on the right when using 'facing pages', to get a left hand page you need to drag one there...

...when using 'single page' mode, you only get pages underneath each other, unless you manually drag them side by side in the pages palette...

Great thanks for the link and for the tips Andrew. Like you said plenty for me there to get me started.
