importing a graphic question 1

I have a logo which is very detailed and it has
a white background on it.

I've imported it into Flash and would like to
remove only the background, but Flash isn't
cooperating.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried importing a .png version?

i had success doing it two ways. one import the image, then hit CTL + B, then use the eraser to erase what you dont need. then like oldnewbie said as a png. if you have Fireworks or something you can make the background transparent or use that wand thing to select the white part and hit delete, then you should crop to fit.
