I have an Excel spreadsheet that contains a list of contacts, including the last name, first name, company, business phone and email fields. When I try to import the spreadsheet into Outlook as Contacts, I get an error that reads:
An error has occurred in the Microsoft Excel translator while getting the contents of the file system.
The Microsoft Excel file E:\filename.xls has no named ranges. Use Microsoft Excel to name the range of data you want to import.

I am not sure what they are asking for. I searched TechNet for the error message and fund nothing.
any help is greatly appreciated. If it ain't broken, play with it till it breaks.

I had this happen too and here is what I did. Go into excel and highlight the list (Not select all, but the actual range) and then name the range. Next to the font drop down list there is a name box that allows you to name a range of cells. All you do is click inside and type the name. It should work fine after that. Let me know if this helped. Another option is to save the file as a .csv or .txt file. It imports into Outlook much easier that way.
