I have recently imported a new .pst file into Outlook 2000. I deleted the "Main" folder that was originally there, hoping to just work from m new imported one. But now I think it has caused problems.

I try to add an item to a contact, and an error appears saying "Unable to display the dialogue box". I think it now doesn't know where to look, but I want it to use the new folder imported. (it includes all the usual things, contacts, tasks, inbox outbox etc...).

Any idea how I amend this? I am desparate for it to work.

Thanks,

Alex.

not sure but u can try
use the File->Open->Personal Folders. Once
opened, drag and drop the files that you want to a new folder you create in the new .pst file.

Maybe I'm not describing the problem correctly.
Outlook doesn't seem to understand that the new imported pst file, which is now seen as a folder, is the main folder to work from. So when I try and insert an item, usually the folder and it's contents appear, and you can insert something. But now it doesn't know where to look.

Am I making sense???

I've tried all the possible options I can think of and don't know how to change the setting. I hope deleting the main contacts folder wasn't a major mistake...??

dont know much about what going on but u might try reimporting following these steps
First make sure you do
a backup of your .PST files. Go to "C:\Windows\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\" and copy any .PST files.

On your Desktop, right-click Outlook and select Properties. Remove all the
instances of Personal folders. Then you add again the Personal folders, type
a new name for the new personal folders file, and then click OK.

Next time you open Outlook, you won't have anything, so what you do is go to
File>Import/Export. Select Import from another program or file>Personal
Folders File (.pst)>Browse to where you copied the backup .pst files at the
beginning, and select Replace duplicates with items imported>Select your
personal folders, Put a check mark on Include Subfolders, and make sure you
have selected Import Items Into The Same Folder In: Personal Folders.

After it finishes, check your contacts to see if you got them all back
