imported BMP's not importing right.

OK! I broke up my .avi into bitmap images. And those are LOTS and LOTS of bitmap images. So, I open a new movie in Flash 5 and I import them. Well it imports them all, but half of them are black. Which is the background color. So I think, "GREAT, they didn't break down right"...I then proceed to open one of the numbered bmp images that showed up black after I imported them into flash into a regular paint program to make sure that the image looked right. And you know what, it did. I THEN tried to only import a few at a time into flash. It works fine until you get up around image 480-500. And then you guessed it...BLACK...PLEAASE tell me what I am doing wrong....
