How do u implement security for the Shadow Folder.

The VSS DB i am handling has some 40 Domain users. I have created shadow folder for all the projects in the DB.

I want to ensure that the Shadow folder cannot be accessed directly, eg From the explorer or dos prompt. But as of now i am giving all the rights to the users.

Is there any workaround. Like I can run VSS as a NT Service ?

So I see I'm not the only one with this problem. I fought with it when we first started using VSS about a year and a half ago, and not matter how many forums I went to and how many poeple I asked, the answer was always the same: there's no way to protect the shadow folder.

VSS uses the network login name and password in order to update the files in both its database and its shadow folder, so by definition, you need full access to both places.

In my case I was concerned over people mistakenly going into the database folder and changin or deleting stuff, but it cannot be avoided. Just have to careful!

Let me know if you ever find anything about this!

Good luck,
.DaviD.
