I am starting a cabling company on the side from my full time job, and was curious what the general opinion of being a bisci member?

It is not only important but being an RCDD is more important or have one on staff. In my RFPs I require the company to be a BICSI member for at least five years and have a RCDD on staff that has five years as a RCDD. This is becoming more and more as a requiremnt. Next research the BICSI web to see why it is important.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking into for some time, just wanted to make sure the cost was justified

Keep in mind, I work for a large company and have large cabling projects. If you are targeting the small business markert, it might be overkill.

Well since it is a start up, pretty much any job I get I will do, right down to residential. The goal obviously for financial goal reasons, is to land bigger jobs, as I work for a fairly large bank and have seen first hand what the market here is charging.

I just want to say thanks for this thread! This was the first I've ever heard of BICSI or RCDD but looking at their site I can easily see how it would behoove me to get on board.

The more I learn the more I learn that I need to learn.

BICSI also has excellent training and reference material. To start I suggest purchasing their manuals and following up with courses as budget permits.

What city are you looking at starting in? I may be able to refer you to a local BCSI contact.

Thanks GM, I have since registered and am awaiting my packet in the mail. Training, will come shortly there after.

We had BICSI do a suitcase class, they came on site and trained 7 of us in a week.

I will be taking some of their classes soon, and hopefully, since I am responsible for onsite cable management, I can have my employer help spring some of the cost, hehe
