Hi all,

I have several files that I want ReportNet to report against.

As a test I had my consultant setup reports against two files. It took him awhile to get the file structures into the tool. I think he typed or cut and paste them all in. Also, I did not like the field names showing up in report and query studios. I do have data dictionaries for all my structures and would prefer to see those instead.

Can someone tell me:
1) is there away to import structures/file layouts into the tool? Say a COBOL copybooks?
2) is there away to import my data dictionaries so that their names show up instead of the structure's field names?

Thanks in advance for any help

If you are using COBOL data, try using the available ODBC drivers (such as Transoft's U/SQL) if you want to directly access the data in CRN.

Hi Dave, thanks for the tip. That solves question one.

For question two, I would really like to see the business name for each of the fields in the tool instead of the COBOL copybook field name. Example "Account Number" instead of ACCT-NUM.

I see how to rename them manually one at a time in the studios. This would be very overwhelming because our data structures are large and there are many. Instead, I would like to import the dictionary and have the business names show up in the studios while the backend continues to use the COBOL field name.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You could rename them in Framework manager , so you have to rename them only once.

Hi Draoued, thanks for the tip.

Do you think there is a way to import this info into the Framework manager?

I have thousands of them.

I don't have hands-on knowledge with it yet, but I hear that the SDK for ReportNet is very capable. If there are linkages in it for FM, perhaps you could automate the process that way.
