Hi. Using two servers, one sql 7, new one is 2000. Trying to move data from old 7 to new 2000 using import.

Database called SATR_MAIN on server Hal, copying to same name on server DAVE.

Gets about 72 percent, then fails. Only error message is

Failed to copy objects from SQl to SQL

When I open the log, I get

SQL-DMO Unexpected Paramater value or other condition.

I am dieing here.

Why not do a backup and restore from the old server to the new server.

Good news is that another guy got it working, but..

Tried the back up and restor and it also failed.

What worked is importing tables, then a seperate import for stored procedures, ud types, and what not.

Hadda do them one at a time, and I still don't know why.

Thank you very much though,
ChaZ

hugh, that's strange. I would be very worried about why the restore failed. I would look into that and see why that didn't work. If you can't restore from a backup then you are dead in the water if you have a system failure.

Yea, I know.

We just bought the server and software to upgrade from 7 to 2000. The new server gets backed up tonight with the regular backup. I will try a restore in the morining. Hopefully it's just the restore has problems because it came from a v 7 database.

Hoping,
ChaZ

Hopefully. It shouldn't have problems though. I've restored many a SQL 7 db to a SQL 2k server.

This is stupid of me, but you weren't restoring a transaction log backup ...

Cheers
