Hi, Tek-Tips!
I see a couple of threads on this topic but either they have no answers or I can't understand what they've been answered with.

I receive an .rtf file (which apparently comes from an Access database but the department that sends it swears they can't export it any other way) which I need to verify against my listing monthly. It would be much easier if I could sort the information in the .rtf.

Is there any way to import the .rtf as an Access 2002 data table? I'm not very good with code, so if you have a code answer, write is simply, please. Thanks for any help you can give me!

I guess it depends on whether it is layed out as a table or not...

I would open it in Wordpad and Save As a MS Dos text file with a txt extension.

Next in Access, from the File menu select Get External Data, Import.

Next change the files of type to text files.

Then select whether it is fixed width or delimited. Fixed width means that a field starts in the same position of the line, delimited means that something like a comma separates each field. If tabs are used as delimeters it can be tricky to know the difference. The rest is hopefuly intuitive. Just remember to save your specification so all you have to do is hit advanced and specs to load it.

If it is not formatted as a table, then it is probably very difficult to get Access to read it.

One more thought, to export to a file from a table or query you would select export from the file menu and follow a similar wizard. If it is Access, maybe you can just get them to do it this way.

Thanks!

It's a report with headers, so while it does have a somewhat table look to it, the delimiters aren't in the right place for all rows. I think they're grouping the data by several different things and giving each of them header rows. :-(

(If they'd just give me five minutes with the data...)

Maybe you could find out who supports the application and get in touch with him. It should be easy to get them to create a button that sends a query as an attachment.

At the very least you should be able to sort and group your data the same way to make visual comparisons easier.

And of course there is always the 5 minutes with the data hope.
