I'm creating a file in reportsmith that I need to import to Crystal. I can save it in a text file format, or an Excel file format. Does anyone know if there is anyway I can import a reportsmith file into Crystal? If not, what would be the best way to import an Excel or text file.

I've seen mention of an Excel add-in to Crystal, but haven't found any information on it.

Thanks very much.

Hi Sue,

You can't actually "import" the report into Crystal. What you can do is report off the data once it is in Excel format or a text file - as if you would report off any other datasource.

If you install Crystal on a machine with Excel it will also give you the option to install the Excel Add-in. You may need to add it from the Tools - Add Ins menu in Excel. The add in will add a Crystal Reports button to your Excel menus which launces a wizard that walks you through creating a report off the data in the current Excel spreadsheet.

Hope this helps.

There ws a tool that came with CR7 called the Document Import Tool (DIT).

You gave it a TXT file and colored in different bits with the DIT editor. Then DIT generated an Access MDB and a rpt based on that MDB. You could then migrate the Rpt to the original data source.

Anyone with CR7 will have that as an install option. It's not available in CR9 but I'm trying to see if the download is still there somewhere.

Personally I've found is faster to build the reports manually.
