When I import contacts from Excel to Outlook, the phone numbers are completely changed (the numbers actually change to something not even close to the original entry).

I tried making the phone numbers just numbers with 10 digits: 9258884444, and with 11 digits: 19258884444. I tried formatting the cells as numbers, then as text. I tried typing in the parentheses, space & dash: (925) 888-4444, which is how it is exported from Outlook to Excel.

Anyone know what format to use? It is driving me crazy!

Thanks! - Deb

I finally figured out the problem.

In order to import phone numbers from Excel to Outlook, it must be in plain text format. However, when you apply text format to cells that already have numbers typed in them, they don't change to text by using Format-Cells & selecting "Text"!!! It is only formatted as text if the cell began as text before you typed the number in. If you already typed in numbers, Excel's Help says to select EACH cell, Hit <F2>, Press <Enter> to change it to text. Tedious, but do-able. :)
