i have imported a csv file that was origanally a excel file.i had to do this due to a field having a very large number that just wouldnt import. in importing however i have a long date that has split and imported into two colums with quotes around each. i have taken out the quotes but now the dates are registered as text fields. how can i get access to pick them up as date fields? they look like '14 august 2007' eg. i will be automating this for users every month so it is a real issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can during the import process specify the datatypes of the fields and save the import specification. Be sure to grab the name when you save it as the wizard is the only place it is accessible.

Docmd.transfertext optionally takes an import specification.

I hope that is what you were looking for.

The specifications are saved in system files>

sorry didnt put resolved reply to this one, what i ended up doing was reformated the date to a short date in excel that way it imported into one colum. Can just reformat in access then ,but as per new thread i have another issue with a large number to be resolved before i am out of the woods with this file!
