Hello,
I am still very new to this. Could someone explain or point me in the right direction on how to update a table with the contents of a text file from within sql plus?

I would import the text file into a temp table using SQL*Loader and then run an update query on the two tables.

Does that point you in the right direction? If not, we will need more information from you (table structures, etc)... Terry M. Hoey

It helps...
But as I said I am very new to this. Suppose the table only has two columns (say shoe and size). The text file likewise. Where do I start. How does the SQL loader work...
