Here's the deal.
I have a 3d model that I want to bring into Power Point shaded.
I don't really have much problem making it happen except I don't know how to
get a transparent background from a bmp or jpg. Wmf only seems to give
me the wire frame.
What is the best format for this?
How do I get a transparent back ground?

Thank You.

Hi,

Jpegs and Bitmaps do not offer transparency properties. Only pngs and gifs do!

You can plot-to-png but there's no option in AutoCAD plotting to select a transparent background. So basically you can't do what you need from within AutoCAD but there are two main ways in which you can accomplish what you require with a few graphic design tips..

1: When shading the object(s), change the colour of the AutoCAD background to match that of the PowerPoint background colour..

2: If you know anything about PaintShop Pro, PhotoShop or another image-editing program then you can export an image as a png or gif and select the colour you wish to remove, thus making it transparent..
All you need to do is make sure that when you shade and save the image, the AutoCAD background colour is different to the model or some of the model's colour maybe removed in the transparency removal..

If you want any help on this, please reply and I'll give you some pointers..

Anyway, I hope this helps..

Cheers,

Well thanks for the info. Unfortunately, the document
I'm pasting into has a gradient fill as the background.

What really bothers me is that a former employee here pulled
it off. He must have used an intermdiate software to edit the file.

I'll just keep at it.

WMFBKGND turns off the background for wmfout, but the wmf is wireframe, not hidden or shaded.

I don't have Power Point on this machine to test this, but if you render your drawing and do a "saveimg", and save it as a .tiff file format, the background is clear when inserted into Excel. If you use a shade instead of render, the image background will be the color of your screen. The image background will be the screen color if you save it in the .bmp file format also.
Render > Saveimg > .tiff file format.
