Hi, i have an 8gb text ile which i am trying to import into a linked table (odbc to mysql), Anyone got any ideas on how to do this? Im using Acess 2007

Many thanks,

Brian

Forgot to mention that i have also got a saved import method which i have tested on a smaller freaction of the database, which works ok.

I can't actually help - I've never tried to use Access with a MySql back end, but what's the problem? Your test worked, it's time to go for the real thing.

Enjoy,
Tony

HI, the test was just a snapshot of the data to see if all the values went into the right field. The file is too big for access to handle so im not sure if there is a macro or another way to import it....

Cheers..

Why would you IMPORT the data into Access, when it is in your SQL Server database?

Just LINK to it and Query as needed.

If you're wanting to go from a text file to MySQL, then you don't need Access in that loop, I'd say it just muddies the waters.

See if you can find help here:

Specifically, it says for Windows uers, the second link, which goes to a download for a custom-built app for importing large text files into MySQL:

So with all that in mind, why are you asking this in a MS Office forum, and do you have some specific reason for wanting to use Access between your text file and MySQL?
