ok iam not familiar with oracle :)
what we want to do is :
we have sun/Solaris10 machine with oracle on it.for backup we just export the data and we transfer the to bkp tape.now we just want to check that of what we r backing up is valid.we want to 'import' them to another x86 machine.can that be done, or we want a x64 machine/operating system?
any advices suggestions would be appreciated

Hi,
As far as I remember, the DATA that is exported is not processor specific so it should not matter..However the DMP file created by the Sun box may not be readable by the x86 one's import binary so importing may present an issue.

Why not try a small export/import test to see what happens?

Also the version of the database must be the same or earlier then the database on the 32 bit machine.
