We currently use 6120 WLAN handsets with a 2245 and 2246 gateways for nurse call on a CS1000. Now the customer has ordered some SIP WLAN 8440 handsets. I have been reading through the implementation and have a couple of questions.

1) Do we HAVE to build a new Node for the SIP phones or can the SIP gateway be enabled on the current Node and just have the phones pointed there? We want both the 6120 handsets and SIP 8440 handsets working simultaneously.

2) If a new node is needed, is the only service affecting portion going to be the "appstart restart" command to restart the SIP line services since it's a new node?

3) Also, I am assuming that the 2245 and 2246 will not be affected by going to SIP as it just uses the SVP protocol, correct? I have also read that there is an 8000 series gateway now that incorporates the telephony manager function and oai gateway function into one box, is that accurate? That would be my recommendation to the customer as well.

I was talking with a fellow engineer and he suggested that we put the SIPL on a separate Sig Server. He said they tried the same implementation and they had so many issues that required an apps restart many times which is obviously service affecting. He thought it was something to do with the Node having TPS, SIP trunking, and SIPL.
