Hi,

I was wondering if somebody can tell me something more about the impact accessing an oracle-database via an ODBC-connection in Access can have.
Can it influence the performance of the server? If yes what can be the impact? What are the do's and don't 's? Is there a difference in accessing the oracle-database via normal queries and via passthrough queries? Can access-queries make a server "crash" when they are badly defined?

Thanks a lot in advance for your advice!

Best regards,

Dirk

I've never had a problem with Access causing Oracle to crash. The problems I have had are usually with Access itself, things rarely pass back through to the Oracle server. I usually experience the clinet machine locking up, or Access crashing and taking the client machine with it. The Oracle server is usually pretty well isolated from all this.
