IMP 5: SQL Views not showing

Impromptu version 5.0.174.11 - K - 15

This might be a simple question, but the solution is eluding me. Currently we have impromptu catalogs accessing a SQL Server database, and I've added a new view to the database. Unfortunately, the view cannot be added, as it does not show up in the list of tables. In fact, all databases added to this catalog do not show any of the views. I've searched through the tabs but could not find a "show only tables" or "don't show views" checkbox, but couldn't find any.

I've been working in this version for years, and we have about 120 reports that have been developed over three years. I've learned to live with this version, and the users are happy with the reports. There is no push to upgrade, so I'm stuck with the version we have now.

I hope a simple solution exists so I don't have to recreate the catalog from scratch.

To add a view, follow these steps.

1. In Impromptu, select the Tools menu and choose Options.
2. On the General tab, clear the 'Retrieve Database Tables when editing catalog tables' check box.
3. From the Catalog menu, select Tables.
4. Select the Retrieve Tables button. This will bring up a Database Object dialog box, where the option to select Tables, Views, Synonyms, and System Tables are offered.
5. Select Views, then OK. This will retrieve the metadata for all tables, views, and synonyms, enabling them to be added to the catalog.

thanks for the amazingly quick response. That solved it. I hope that in the current version, at least the "retrieve tables" button appears all the time. Seriously, what purpose does hiding the button serve? I understand the need for the "auto-retrieve" checkbox, but hiding the button?

The tool is amazing, once you get used to the interface, but I think it's overdue for a UI analysis and redesign.

But then again, it might be the version i'm working with . . .

oh well.
