immediate lookup and retreival

Hi all,
i am trying to use a field, and generate another field automaticaly from the information entered

for example

enter 1000 in the first field and automatically the system looks to the database and gives for example keith appleby... This must be done without clicking on submit, it must be done automatically, is this possible and if so how

remote scripting is what has to be used to make a round trip to the server without reloading the page. Swany (member) has some good FAQ's on that subject over in the VBScript forum on this site. They would make a good read.

Additionally, if there wasn't too much information, then you could read the matching database values into a client side javascript array, and then do a lookup when they enter '1000' or whatever... problem would be that if there was alot of information to store, it would slow your application down on the client's end because of the extra memory being used...
