Hi all,

I support a site that still has 5.5 running. It's been going for many years... just a few days ago all the outgoing smtp mail is staying in the IMC queue.

on the connections tab I use "Forward to Host" and use an ip address, i don't do DNS resolution as we have another internal smtp server that I relay to before it goes out.

Anyhow the message in the event shows 3010 - unable to connect to xyz.com host, which doesn't make since since the way I have it set up it should just blindly relay all mail to my 2nd smtp server.

seems like something needs rebuilt, not sure where to start on this one.

Any thoughts or suggestions.

Log on to your IMS server, and try manually telnetting to your smarthost SMTP server: telnet servername 25

If that works (ie you get a response from the SMTP service), then there is a problem with the IMS. If it fails, then that's why the IMS can't talk to it either. It could be name resolution (repeat the telnet command but use the IP address in place of the servername), or a change to a router or firewall between the servers (maybe the SMTP smarthost is in a DMZ?). If so, check the default gateway setting on the IMS server as well.
