Does anyone out there know the logs are stored when you have Message Tracking enabled on Exchange 5.5. I am running out of space and noticed that in addition to other folders inside the IMCDATA directory. There are 3 folders: IN, LOG and OUT. Inside the IN folder there is an archive folder which is 5GB. The LOG folder has text files which total about 4.5GB. most of the text files were created backin July. In the OUT folder there is another Archive folder which is about 1GB. Is any of this safe to delete? By the way server is not used for mailstorage, it is a bridgehead server.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, the IN/ARCHIVE and OUT/ARCHIVE folder contents can be deleted manually - indeed they have to be. The contents of the IMCDATA/LOG directory also can be safely deleted. These are nothing to do with message tracking, these logs are stored in the tracking.log directory. The tracking logs can be deleted automatically according to the schedule set in the SA properties (General tab).

You say most of these IN, OUT and LOG files are left from July - are they still being written? All these logs and message archives are controlled by the Logging options in the IMS. When changing the IMS logging options, you need to stop and restart the IMS service for your changes to take effect.
