I'm looking for an example that would show how to imbed a Word document insode a Crystal report. The rich text support in the latest version of Crystal is too buggy to be of any use. I need to be able to load rich text notes from a SQL database into the body of a Word document which would be imbedded in a Crystal report. Any help would be much appreciated.

Why do you want the Word document layer?

You're probably limited to one page anyway if you mean OLE.

Have you tried using the Crystal Paragraph Formatting->RTF text on this field? Applied hotfixes/service packs? Are you using external code?

Please post version information, example data and expected output.

We've tried using that feature in Crystal 8.5, and there are a LOT of bugs in it. It does not handle underlining or bulleted lists correctly and according to a post in their knowledge base, it also has problems with super and subscripts. As far as we know, these things aren't fixed in later releases. It seems like the only thing we could do if we want to continue using Crystal for this project is to imbed something in the reports that knows how to correctly interpret RTF tags.

You can use insert->Ole Object->Create from File->point at a Word doc and make sure that you select Link

The next time the report is opened it will update the link.

I'd go ahead and apply Service Pack 2, they address a lot of exporting concerns anyway.

OK. What I was thinking of doing was to use a script in the Word document to pull in the notes from the database and build the text. Some of these notes can be several pages long. As long as Crystal knows how to deal with that I think it should work. Thanks.

I've no idea how Crystal might deal with that, but Crystal will likely limit it to 1 page...
