I have mail on an exchange server and I want to extract this mail from UNIX without using POP3. Can I do this via IMAP??? The mission is to rapidly remove email messages from the exchange server and process the messages and attachments in a UNIX application...

You can use fetchmail to get mail from just about any kind of server...

Fetchmail is a *very* well supported and feature rich application, so I would suggest that you go to its homepage ( and at the FAQ where is discusses using fetchmail with exchange (
Then you can use whatever client you want to read the mail :)

I personally do this on linux to download my mail from Exchange, and read it using evolution...

Thanks! I will go to the site and check it out...how about a POP3 client for UNIX?

Fetchmail will get the mail, then you can use any client you want (pine, evolution, etc...)

There are 100's of pop clients available for your use :)
(take a look @ freshmeat.net)
