IMAP - Port 143 on NT

I am attemping to run IMAP and a mercury mail server. The configuration works well when hosted on other system but it seems that NT 4.O is blocking traffic on the port. Port probes respond that this port is closed. The port has been opened through the firewall and even when I test internal to the network, the port is closed. How do I open port 143 on an NT 4.0 Server.
