I have got the responsability to recover some data from a old mandrake server, as far I as know the users were getting their emails from a Imap server, then other company took control of the server and did remove mandrake linux and installed windows 2003. The disks of mandrake are still there, and I was able to recover the old documents and so on. The problem I am having now is that I dont know how to recover the old emails folders, I have all of them in a folder, but does not have any extension and I dont know how I can import these files into a outlook or thunderbird format. Anyone can give any tips?

It depends on what flavor of IMAP server it was running. Some use maildir, some use mbox, some use a proprietary format. If they are single files with no extension, I'd bet on mbox, in which case you can open them in a text editor and read them.

did not work, strange characters, need to find other way. Thank you.

Then you need to find out what the old imap server was. Did you try "file mailboxname" to see if the system recognizes the file format?
