Hello,

I am trying to use ZenWorks imaging for new Dell Vostro laptops. I am using PXE boot to connect to the Imaging Server. When uploading the image using the Zen Maintenance mode, I receive an error that 'No Active Partitions' are found.

Also, when reviewing the system information using the linux boot, I notice an error for hard drive controller - Unknown Device. It seems that I need the Linux drivers for this hard drive. However, I am not sure where to save the new drivers on the Imaging Server.

Any Help to resolve this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I'll bet those are SATA drives. You'll have to get the SATA drivers rolled into the PXE boot image, which is a real pain unless you're a linux guru.

I figured out a cheat...
In the BIOS of those Dells, set the SATA disks to "compatibility mode" or "Native mode" (different bioses call it different things). This will cause those disks to emulate a PATA drive and the imaging software will be happy about it. After imaging, set the BIOS back to normal as this setting slows the drive down some.

Good luck.

You're correct. These are SATA Drives.

The bios on the new Vostro laptops has very few settings. I did not find the option to set the SATA disks to "compatibility mode" or "Native mode".

Can you please give some information on how get the SATA drivers rolled into the PXE boot image. Appreciate your help.

Thanks

Sorry I don't have that info. I suggest you look for it on CoolSolutions.

Found the solution:

Need to use IR1, which recognizes these SATA drives on new dell laptops.

Thanks for your help.
