I am laying out a catalogue using sections including images from a previous catalogue. When I update the links on the new pages, some of the images stay exactly the same size, some move position a tiny bit and some change size completely (always get larger rather than smaller, and have to be scaled back to fit in the frame). Why is this and can I do anything to prevent it?

If the original, in the links folder, is big and it's scaled in Indesign it cna overflow its box on update because ID doesn't know what you did to that image - such as making it bigger, etc. If your images have been made to fit the frame, using Fitting on the objet menu, they usually hold when updated.

If you have a lot of pics that are all going to be the samae size, and they all have the same proportions, it's easiest to run them through a batch in photoshop to get them all the same and teh right size. Then when you update you have no problem.
