I have read several threads about poor image quality on graphics that are imported/placed into Pagemaker 7. I am still having problems getting any graphic to look or print at any acceptable quality. I need some help here plz.

Keep in mind that the images that you see in a PM layout are low-res previews. They should print in full resolution at print time.

You also have a setting in the print dialog to print image data in 'normal, optimized subsampling, low-res, omit, etc'. 'Normal' will print in the images' true resolution. The other settings will print images in lesser quality.

Pick an example graphic for this thread.... What image format are you using? What DPI? What size? Details please...

The two most important things you need to tell us about your graphics are (1) their resolution and (2) the file format. If you are using 72dpi JPGs then of course the images are going to print badly. You need images of 300 dpi for commercial/postscript printing or if printing to a non-PS printer, you can have lower rez (around 200dpi). The best graphics file formats for placing in PM are TIFs (which will priint on a non-PS printer) or EPS (which need a PS printer to print - otherwise you get the low quality 'placeholder' printing).

I created a complex Photoshop graphic and saved it at 300 dbi then saved it as a TIF. I printed clearer but I guess the low res on screen is something I have to get used to. I am creating letterhead in PM and I am needing high res graphics. Now my PM file is enormous.

Place your graphics as links instead of embedding them. This will keep your PM file size smaller.

Handy rule o' thumb:
The bigger the PM file size is, the better chance it can become corrupted as the computer chokes on more bytes.

When File>Placing the graphics... and that is the ONLY way you should be placing them... NEVER copy/paste... when it asks if you want to "include" the image, say 'no'. Only link to the image and your PM files will stay smaller.

Also in prefs, make sure you have it set up to 'save smaller', not 'save faster', and frequently do a 'save as' rather than just a save when working on the project. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
