OUr NT4 server has stopped functioning correctly. Exchange server does not work and we cannot log on to the server workstation. If we try and log on we get a message that imagehlp.dll has caused an error and the service has not been loaded. We also get a message saying we are running out of virtual memory.
As long as we reemove the two error messages workstations can access files on the server, but exchange does not work.
The messages keep appearing and server access stops. The server has one gig of free space.
Any suggestions please

You may need to reinstall NT4.0 Server on this machine. This will repair your corrupted files and maintain all other files. Make sure you have service pack 4 or above. Also, sounds like you need to reconfigure your Virtual memory. How much memory do you have on this box? It should be set at 1.5 to 2 times the amount of RAM. Otherwise your server is probably pegging out at 100%, which will cause major performance issues. If you don't want to reinstall try replacing just the imagehlp.DLL that you are having a problem with. If needed pull it from the server CD or another Server that is working fine.
Hope this helps. Cliff, MCSE/MCSA 2000

Thanks for your answer
Have tried re-installing imagehlp.dll and also deleting it but this does not help. Will re-installing NT4 be destructive to the datafiles on the server? and what about exchange's mailboxes?
Thanks
Sam

I hope you have a backup of the files on this server. But, you should be just fine reinstalling NT Server and all service packs without losing any data, or interferring with Exchange. This should repair any os files that are corrupted and causing your errors. Also, see if there are any second opinions out there. I feel confident with this suggestion as i have done it myself, but proceed with caution. I would hate to lose all those exchange files.
