imagecreate functions are not available.

Hi,
I have confused. After reading some books they said to create graphics I need GD2.0 unless I have php 4.3.x I have version 4.3.9 which has it's own GD stuff built in. So why is it not working I have wrote a simple script. to check if the function is there using the function exists function. which says it's not.
What have I got to do to get it to work?

Hi,
Thanks sleipnir214. After reading the instructions again. I started to twig that my installation was incomplete. Directories were missing etc. I had installed the version without the extensions. After downloading the correct version and changing the php.ini file to load the gd extension everything worked.

Thanks for guiding me in the right direction.
I now have a graph in the corner of my page, Well chuffed.
