does someone know how i can have images show as thumbnails in finder?

Ok, then You can choose in the top of each window of images the icon with the 4 little squares and if you can't see them that well increase the size of the icons and they should show up.

Another option that I use more often is a program like ACDSee or search in Google under thumbnail viewer OS X and you should find things.

i have one more question though...is it possible to have icon preview in column view? sometimes it is more comfortable for me to use the column view, but i need the icon preview.

Again you can try the larger icon size but that's about it. Since it is a format design more to show data than visual references, that's going to be the best you can get.

There might be an apple script out there that would increase the size further but other than that I don't know.

 
You can Command I the folder and paste the required icon onto the folder. Same as in old Apple OS's
