image resize question

is there a function or a way to resize an image with only giving the width and have the height automatically be adjusted according to the given hieght


for instance if you open up photoshop and want to resize an image...if you have "contrain proportion" checked it will automatically adjust the size of the width or the height depend on which field the user decides to input in (being the width or the height)

There is no function to do this, you must manually program the GD library function (which I've done several times). It's not easy for a beginner to do but after a couple of times you get the math down and it's a cakewalk. Give it a shot if you feel adventurous (it pays off in the end) or find a tutorial or pre-made script to do it.
