Guys,

After your opinions on how you go about optimizing images for the web, I generally create all my artwork in Fireworks as PNG files. Do you look at image optimization on a per-image basis dependant upon its properties such as transparency and colour variation, or do you blanket compress the images into a set format?

I'm just interested to get your thoughts on this.

It comes down to what the image needs to do. If I need images with transparent parts I'll use PNG's. If I need solid images with few colors I'll use jpeg's.

the optimization comes down to how small can it be before it starts looking not good enough.

This day an age with high speed internet connections the size of an image is becoming less of an issue and quality of the image is gaining strength.
