I currently use a PHP program - GD library which is a great tool for manipulating images and requires very little setup.
I am looking for a similar tool to use from within Perl.

I found a Perl GD module, but it requires numerous other modules in order to function and an attempt to load one of the modules (GD::Image), from CPAN, results in the download opening my media viewer (What's that about then?).
Is GD, Perl's best option or is there something else out there?

Looked into that and it seems to split the modules rather than GD in PHP which does all the standard functions - resize, polygon, line etc.
I am happy using the PHP version from Perl but I need the size of images on the fly and passing them to perl has proved to be a problem.
Resize - would solve the problem but I would miss the other native functions.
I could write the info from PHP to a file and then read it from Perl but it seems a long winded way of doing it.
Maybe, I should write the app in PHP but I like Perl as it suits my old fashioned programming style.
