Image Map in Template

Hello....

I am working on a site suing templates. I have created templates and they work well, but I cannot add an image map to the page when I create a new file from a template.

I can put an image map in from the template level and it works fine. The problem in the template is where the map coordinates are input. I have tried to make this area an editable region, but to no avail. I really need to use templates, for the site navigation and other locked information is updated constantly.
