I am displaying a invoice in a tabular format which the user can print. This invoice has got many logos (gif files).

On the browser the logos look very nice and sharp, but when I take a print the same logos are printed very dull.

What can be the problem. Please suggest ?

You might find that calibrating your printer to your screen will fix this. This will require some kind of colour management software... I use a Mac and it has some colour management software supplied. Maybe someone can suggest a solution specific to your operating system.

You may also want to appreciate that images as seen on the web browser are displayed at 72dpi. Assuming that your printer prints at 600dpi (common resolution), some interpretation is done to "convert" the image to a decent print size. This can result in grainy and blurred images... and it may be this that you are experiencing.

Try visiting a similar looking page (with small logos etc) from another company's website and compare the printed output.

Blind guessing: are you using background color on page? Are GIF logos transparent?

Btw. web image resolution is 72dpi - less than 3 dots/mm.

Thanx All,

Yes the gifs are transparent. If the browser uses 72 dpi and normal printers use 600 dpi, then how can we take a print from other sites with perfect pictures.

What is the real solution ??

Have you visited a site as I suggested and found a page that prints the image "perfectly"? Your post implies that you have... but please confirm.

Maybe if you put a URL for the page you are experiencing a problem with? If it's on an intranet, then make an HTML version (with dummy data, and all the required imagery) and put it online somewhere so we can test.

Baby Jeffy,

The URL is
It will prompt u for username and password enter "dummy" for both, there is a link "Neutral AWB" click it ,enter dummy data, then click Print AWB.

Now u can take a print and understand what my problem is.
The logos at the bottom are the ones which are creating problems.

The quality of your logos is very bad. That's why they're printing very badly.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!

Billy,

Sorry for asking this stupid question -- How do u make good quality logos ?

Speak to your graphics design department, or scan a good copy in from print... Or design it yourself from scratch... Or buy a good quality one, or get one from the institute the logo belongs to.
