Image into DB

I'm working with someone on a site in which I need to store images in a database and then retrieve them from the database.. and guesses on how to do this have been wrong so I'm hoping someone here can clue me in..

The way I have handled this in the past is to put all the images into one folder called "images" and store them on the server. In the database i then enter a link to the image(s) eg: ../images/image1.jpg
