Image.dll Not found 1

When I boot up (Dell 8300, 3.2 Ghz, 1Gb memory, XP) I get an error msg TWICE "image.dll Not Found" at the same time (may or may not be related) I get an error msg "internal applications error has occurred " when I try to open certain application such as Windows Media Player.

Do I have one or two problems? Does anyone have a suggestion for solving either one.
